Visual Prostheses for the Blind: Development of new methods for assessment of safe and effective retinal stimulations

Ethan Cohen
FDA Center for Devices and Radiological Health

Electrically stimulating visual prostheses for the blind are currently in clinical trials, yet little is known about how the retinal cells are activated by these devices and what stimulation levels are safe. In this talk Dr. Cohen discusses some new methods his lab has developed for imaging, modeling, and testing retinal function under stimulation electrodes.
