Krasnow Institute > Monday Seminars > Abstracts Looming and Loss: Cognitive Metaphors and Mechanisms in Anxiety and Depression John Riskind So much overlap has been found in the features associated with anxiety and depression that some have suggested that they are the same syndrome. A part of the difficulty in separating these affective syndromes from each other is that they have relied on sterile metaphors that have prevented us from fully understanding the reality of the cognitive mechanisms. A new theoretical framework and research program is discussed.
