The Development and Structure of Visual Cortical Maps

Geoff Goodhill
Georgetown Institute for Cognitive and Computational Science
Georgetown University

The primary visual cortex contains the representations of many visual features in the form of "maps". I will discuss the computational principles that could underly the formation and pattern of these maps. This has relevance to understanding both the biological problem of visual cortical structure, and the practical problem of how to optimally represent high dimensional data in a low dimensional space.
