L-Neuron is one of the scientific projects of the Computational Neuroanatomy Group at the Krasnow Institute for Advanced Study. We expect to release a first version of L-Neuron in the year 2000, for both DOS/Windows and Unix environments. We will post on this page the software, the manual, a library of the virtual neurons, their morphological analysis, and any news regarding L-Neuron. Until the date of the first release, this is to be considered a temporary page.

The L-Neuron Project is supported by the Krasnow Institute for Advanced Study
and by Human
Brain Project/Neuroinformatics research grant R01-NS39600-01 (Generation
and description of dendritic morphology) awarded in 1999 to Giorgio Ascoli
and funded jointly by the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and
Stroke and the National Institute of Mental Health (National Institutes of
Health).
These motoneurons were simulated by L-Neuron using the algorithms by Hillman
(purple, left), Tamori (blue, center), and Burke (green, right). In Hillman’s
models, diameters are calculated with Rall’s power rule, while angles are
measured empirically. In Tamori’s model, both diameters and angles are calculated.
In Burke’s model, both diameters and angles are measured empirically.
