October 24, 2005

A campus telephone technician installs a new telephone for use by Dr. Hall of the University of New Orleans.  The Krasnow Institute is providing phone and internet service and the Institutes's Center for Neural Dynamics acquired a desk and is providing space for Dr. Hall to continue his work while he waits to return to his home institution following the devastation of hurricane Katrina.

A reception to celebrate the Center of Social Complexity joining the Krasnow Institute was held in the Great Room on Thursday, October 6.

 

August 26, 2005

Seventeen new and returning neuroscience PhD students were welcomed to the new school year with a student-faculty picnic held at the Krasnow Institute Friday, August 26.

July 20, 2005
The Krasnow Institute for Advanced Study is pleased to announce that effective July 1, 2005, we were joined by GMU's Center for Social Complexity. CSC represents GMU's initiative in Computational Social Science, which will be physically housed in the new Research-1 Building scheduled for completion next summer 2006. The Center for Social Complexity is known to many Krasnow members for its research projects in computational social science, including the collaborative MASON project with the Evolutionary Computation Lab, as well as the brown bag seminar in CSS which has been hosted at Krasnow. Additional information on the Center is available at http://socialcomplexity.gmu.edu, which is being updated to reflect this organizational change. Further announcements will follow later this summer.

Krasnow Expansion Officially Underway
The Krasnow building expansion project was officially underway with the delivery of the RFP to the three competing design-build teams on Thursday, July 14. The process of selecting the winning team and further refining the plans will progress now at a scheduled pace culminating with groundbreaking in October and a finished building in December 2006.

Krasnow MRI Center

With the purchase finalized on July 7, the Krasnow Institute is now the proud owner of a state-of-the-art 3T MRI which will anchor our brain imaging center. We should have space outfitted in the current building and the new scanner installed by the end of the summer. It weighs 8,900 lbs, so it'll be a tricky installation.

April 15 , 2005
As the first step in the long-awaited building of laboratory expansion, workers
took soil core samples of the ground behind the Krasnow Institute building in
April. An architectural design team will be selected in June and ground breaking
is expected in August.

 

January 10, 2005
Dr. Adrianne Noe, Associate Director of the Armed Forces Institute of
Pathology and director of its National Museum of Health and Medicine,
joined the Krasnow Advisory Board on January 10, 2005.

"As director of this country's National Museum of  Health and Medicine,
Dr. Noe brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the Krasnow
Advisory Board. We are looking forward to her tenure," says Krasnow
director Jim Olds. She joins current board members Anne Armstrong, John Burris, Steve Crocker, Patricia Kluge, Elizabeth Marincola, William A. Nitze, Virginia Pomata, Sara Stanfill, Thomas G. West.
